This delicious and tangy Moist Lemon Cake Recipe is easy to make and is perfect for dessert, picnic, and even afternoon tea. Topped with a sweet yummy glaze

For Lemon Cake

  • 1 tablespoon of lemon zest
  • 1/4 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter 1 stick
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 3/4 Cups of all-purpose flour

For Lemon Syrup

  • 1/4 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • For Lemon Glaze
  • 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 cup of confectioners sugar


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
  2. Butter and flour a 9-inch cake pan
  3. In a bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and salt
  4. In the bowl of a mixer, add the butter and sugar and mix on medium-high speed for 3-4 minutes or until the mixture becomes light and fluffy
  5. Add the eggs one a time beating well after each addition
  6. Add the lemon zest and lemon juice. Mixture will look curdled, don't worry, it'll fix itself once you add the dry ingredients
  7. Add the sour cream
  8. Alternate the dry ingredients with the milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture
  9. Once everything is mixed, pour the batter into a prepared pan and use a spoon to make it smooth on top
  10. Bake for 35-45 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the middle of the cake comes out clean
  11. Remove from and let the cake cool on a rack
  12. For Lemon Syrup
  13. In a small saucepan combine the lemon juice and sugar until the sugar has completely dissolved and mixture starts to boil
  14. Remove from heat
  15. After the cake has cooled for 30 minutes, invert it on a cake plate
  16. Slowly pour the hot syrup on top of the warm cake. Allow the cake to cool completely and the liquid gets absorbed
  17. For Lemon Glaze
  18. Place the confectioners sugar in a bowl
  19. Add the lemon juice and mix with a fork or spoon making sure there are no lumps
  20. Spoon the glaze on top of the cooled cake
